Dickinson Community, "the Original Community", is the birthplace of the collegiate structure at Binghamton University. Dickinson was the first area built and became a model for all the others. The community consists of six residence halls: Champlain, Digman, Johnson, O'Connor, Rafuse and Whitney.
Each community has their own distinctive aspects and tightly-knit community and together the communities build an atmosphere that makes Dickinson Community unique. Building pride, floor spirit and unity are heightened by the small number of people on each hall’s floor and the corridor style living arrangements. Furthermore, students can choose between single-sex or co-ed floors in each residence hall to meet their desired accommodations.
In the near future we will become the New Original Community, as the community is rebuilt to meet more modern standards of housing and safety. Students, faculty and staff are working hard to ensure that the Dickinson Spirit will remain strong as we transition into new facilities. Community is created by people, not the physical space.
